A long time ago, I was debating with someone about the existence of God. He said he doesn’t believe anything that couldn’t be detected by some kind of a meter. His implication was, that God could not be detected with a meter, so therefore, he didn’t exist.
Mankind as some very sophisticated meters. Perhaps the most sophisticated is the Large Hadron Supercollider, located in both France and Switzerland. It is a large circular tunnel which has a circumference of 17 miles. Filled with giant electromagnets, this giant meter’s purpose is to detect the smallest of objects, subatomic particles. Recently, this “meter” has been used to try and detect the ‘Higgs Boson”, otherwise known as “The God Particle”.
This got me thinking….Is there some kind of meter that we could build or that exists already that we could use to detect God?
I began to realize over time, that such a meter does exist! It is not a meter in the traditional sense, like the Large Hadron Supercollider, but rather some things we would not expect. The Bible says out of the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses, a thing is established. In the case of the God Meter there are 3:
- The Creation is a “witness” of the existence of God (Romans chapter 1)
- The Testimony of people like me, literally millions of people, that God Exists.
- The Testimony of people in the past, recorded in the Bible, of the existence of God.
On edit, I need to point out that there are two kinds of proof, and what I am offering here is judicial proof, like the kind of proof you would use in a court room. There is also scientific proof, which would require something other than human testimony. The irony is, the scientific community does not consider human testimony as proof, even though we regularly convict people of crimes using only human testimony at a trial. The 1st “witness” (being the creation) is the subject of much controversy in the scientific community. Even though it is obvious that the earth is the design of an intelligent actor, most of the scientific community refuses to accept this, preferring the flawed theory of evolution and the ridiculous hypothesis of abiogenesis where somehow life was created in a pile of goo by accident.
