Godless and Hypocrisy are the same word in Hebrew

Isaiah 10:6 says in the King James version – “I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.”

But…the new American Standard version translates this verse as – “I send it against a godless nation and commission it against the people of My fury to capture spoils and to seize plunder, and to trample them down like mud in the streets.”

Why the difference? As it turns out, the word “chaneph“(2611) can be translated as profane, irreligious or GODLESS.

We don’t normally think of godless or hypocrisy as the same word in English, because they have different definitions. But in Hebrew, they have same definition. I think this is because godless people (aka atheists) become hypocritical as a result. They are double minded, having a selfish standard for themselves, but a different standard for everyone else. This concept is reflected in Islam as well, relegating non-Muslims as “Kafer”, meaning that they are to be treated differently in a majority Muslim nation.

This is why we see that modern leftists in our nation regularly issue much harsher punishments to non- leftists. An example of this is what happened to the Jan 6th protesters, after they got caught breaking into the Capitol building. Leftist protesters, on the other hand, were bailed out by the vice President. By injecting a political test into their justice, they expose their hypocrisy.

This is the unfortunate result of the West losing its religion, Christianity. This mirrors the warning given to Israel by the prophet Isaiah (chapter 10:1) as Israel lost its religion also:

Woe to those who enact unjust statutes

And to those who constantly record harmful decisions,

So as to deprive the needy of justice

And rob the poor among My people of their rights,

So that widows may be their spoil

And that they may plunder the orphans.

Now what will you do in the day of punishment,

And in the devastation which will come from afar?

To whom will you flee for help?

And where will you leave your wealth?

Nothing remains but to crouch among the captives

Or fall among those killed.

In spite of all this, His anger does not turn away

And His hand is still stretched out.

  1. It is the only thing that explains their thinking. God gives them up and they believe anything but the truth. There are certain threshold decisions that open up a floodgate of evil. When do you think this began? Why did we turn from the blessing of a loving God to hypocrisy? The decision to take prayer out of school was certainly one of them. The decision to allow gay marriage another, but where did these spring from?
